ART & DESIGN
I really liked making art growing up so when the opportunity came up I took the chance and went to art school. I went to the San Francisco Art Institute and graduated with a BFA in Painting.
I got a job with a start-up as a graphic designer that was doing community building around cannabis activism. I made a lot of web banners and post cards for dispensaries. It was a lot of fun, the job was always something different.
I spent a few years after graduation trying to figure out how to make it as an artist and quickly realized that painting wasn’t the best career choice. So I looked around to find out what else I could do that was still arty and creative and I discovered graphic design. At the time, graphic design on the computer was just kind of getting started. I mean it wasn’t the first time anyone done this kind of stuff but it using computers to make art wasn’t as ubiquitous as it is today at that time.
Eventually as the company expanded I got to be the Art Director and had several other artist working under me. That was a lot of work, by that time we were helping with the publishing of a 120+ page monthly cannabis lifestyle magazine. We did the design and page layouts for all the magazines advertising, as well as working on the magazines website and keeping all of its content and advertising up to date.
Eventually the company was sold and I left and continued to work on cannabis related advertising and other design projects which is what I currently do.
Though this website does not feature very many cannabis related projects it’s because Im honestly tired of working on and looking at that stuff and would rather feature my ability to work on other subject matters.
THINGS I’VE MADE
ANIMATION – The art of making things move. While I am not necessarily an “animator” by training or otherwise, I do find animation very interesting and it is something I am interested in working on.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – Text-to-image generation experiments using midjourney, dall-e2, stable diffusion and more. Writing image generation prompts is an art among itself. It’s not easy to translate your vision into words and terms a computer can understand and get the desired results.
DESIGN – Graphic design works: posters, post cards, etc.
FOUND OBJECTS – Cameras are everywhere and so are interesting things. This is a selection of things that made me laugh or say “WTF” and because of that there ius definitely some NSFW content in here.
MACHINE LEARNING – Experiments with machine learning algorithms to make art using GANs. These are not made using “diffusion” models, these are made with Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), specifically StyleGAN 2 by Nvidia.
PRINT – Art work that was made to be printed in the real world.
