USER TESTING: INTERVIEW, MEME COMUNITY SHARING PROCESS (CREATOR) #1

As part of a series of user test on how the sharing mechanisms of a meme based community might work, I interviewed people in the role of “meme creator.” A meme creator is a person who uses the site primarily to create, view and share memes both within the community and outside the community. The meme creator can create and manage their own “community” withing the larger community structure and share their creations with their community and its members. These are the key takeaways from one of those interviews. The interviewee is has been anonymized for privacy purposes. You may use these notes for secondary research purposes as long as I am credited.

Login and Profile Feedback

  • Identified the profile icon at the top left, assuming it leads to user settings, login, and logout options.
  • Noted the ability to edit the profile picture, bio, and social media links from the profile screen.
  • Suggested that notifications and statistics could be moved into the profile section for a cleaner interface.

Sharing Process Observations

• Found the sharing options (e.g., share to community, send a link) intuitive and liked the ability to schedule posts for later.
  • Suggested the use of a calendar picker for scheduling posts to simplify the process.
  • Liked the option to share with multiple communities at once, comparing it to sharing on Facebook Marketplace.
  • Recommended combining certain image-related options like “new image” and “import image” to reduce redundancy.

UI Design Suggestions

  • Suggested that some icons, like the photo icon, were ambiguous and could be misinterpreted (e.g., thinking it might represent a gallery).
  • Recommended adding text labels or clearer icons to reduce ambiguity, especially for important functions like uploading images.
  • Proposed hiding less important icons (e.g., notifications, stats) in a hamburger menu to make the main interface cleaner.
  • Suggested using tooltips or guided overlays for first-time users to make navigation more intuitive.
  • Discussed the possibility of resizing menu icons to indicate scrollability better.
  • Noted that certain functions could be more clearly indicated, such as making it obvious that a bottom menu scrolls left and right.

Feedback on Group and Community Sharing

  • Suggested adding more information to community listings, such as membership numbers or recent activity, to help users decide which communities to engage with.
  • Mentioned that users might benefit from a confirmation message when creating a new community to ensure the action was successful.
  • Discussed the need for filters in community lists, such as sorting by date created, membership size, or recent posts.
  • Recommended considering an upvote/downvote system for content within communities, similar to Reddit, to gauge popularity without relying solely on shares or views.
